Welcome to Postgraduate Program in Economics (PPGECO) at Ufes

  • Historical and economic studies of contemporary Brazilian economy, its interrelations with the world economic system and the repercussions of economic relations on political and social relations. Research topics include post-keynesian economics and institutional Economic; classical economy and economic history of the interwar period.

  • This area of research opens opportunities to develop studies of univariate and multivariate time series models with different emphases, both parametric and non-parametric, in discrete and continuous processes. It can also address properties such as short and long memory, stationary and non-stationary processes (unit root), seasonal series, volatility, heteroscedastic models, outliers (robustness), regression with time series (generalized additive models), resampling techniques, periodic processes, space-temporal models, multivariate techniques in time series with different memory structures (principal component analysis and factor analysis, for example, among others). These research tracks have become, sources of interfaces between statistics, econometrics, finance and computing. The growing interest in these areas is also reflected in the countless national and international scientific events related to the theoretical and applied area of econometrics and computational methods.

  • Study of diverse theoretical economics streams conditions for stability and convergence of macroeconomic balance ; nature and properties of the system's structural instability; performing applied macroeconomic research. Research topics include monetary policy transmission mechanisms; inflation targeting and monetary policy credibility; macrodynamics and economic epistemology; fiscal federalism; budget and fiscal policy; forecasting and time series models applied to macroeconomics.

  • Economic studies of industrial organization, innovation, relations between technological innovations and the environment, and regional economy. Research topics include regional economy applied to the local economy Science, technology and innovation in Espírito Santo; forecasting models and time series applied to the regional economy; economy of information; culture and property rights; socioeconomic development and sustainable development.

The Postgraduate Program in Economics of the Federal University of Espírito Santo fosters technical and scientific development in economic theory, econometrics and macroeconomics through a high level master’s degree program. It provides students with training for professional activity both in the public and private sectors while also enhancing their background to further their studies in doctoral programs.

With a long history of excellence in postgraduate education that dates back to 1994, when it was accredited, the program brings together a wealth of scholars from diverse fields, promoting the transdisciplinary transit of researchers and study groups.

The program is based in Vitória-ES, offering the course of Masters Degree in Economics since 1994 and has an academic qualification profile certified by CAPES, receiving 4 on its last evaluation.

The program already has 209 masters and counts with 35 students regularly enrolled, all of them being masters.
